Norma Street's Profile
Norma Street was born in the Darling Downs of Queensland and spent most of her childhood further north in the Burnett Region. As a young woman, Norma lived in a remote coastal area north of Bundaberg, later moving to the Gold Coast and then to Brisbane. Interestingly, she describes her childhood and the subsequent years of her adulthood, as largely devoid of artistic inspiration, with opportunities for expression infrequent.

Following an accident resulting in a severe back injury and the shock of a cancer diagnosis, Norma made the decision to leave her hectic, high-stress career in the Brisbane corporate world, to embark on the journey of healing.

Arriving on the Sunshine Coast six years ago, Norma’s first priority was to set up a successful Reflexology practice. It was Norma’s inner knowledge coupled with experience that led her to seek for herself a healthier, more balanced life, with art a central ingredient of the mix. Her first encounters with painting came from a very confident inner knowledge that she could ‘just do it’.

Describing herself as both visual and tactile, Norma’s choice of career in healing and art seemed obvious; one is inspired by the other. Norma’s gentleness, giving nature and modesty are evident in her works and in her approach to life.

Largely inspired by nature and spirit, Norma’s favourite subjects include still life, flowers, landscapes and seascapes. She also enjoys interpreting elements of life in abstract form and demonstrates great use of depth, feeling, light and colour.

Norma’s influences include theatre and music and she complements local artists, who have inspired her, such as Aileen Shaw and Jenni Kelly.

Following her heart, Norma Street has found her place in life and as she so aptly states, “My ambition is to do what I enjoy.”
